Check out our latest video chronicling the process our clients undergo as they move into a new residence!
Every Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Derek Thomas, Amy Hall, Garrett Moore and Sharon Gowdey are going to Victoria Park (a SHAG apartment complex for senior citizens) in Lake City to salsa dance with seniors. The class is taught by Alpha staff person Eliane Harwood.
Aside from a fun way to get some exercise, this is an opportunity for Alpha clients to hang out with people in the community who are not relatives or paid staff. The hope is that this will be the first of many similar inclusive activities that will, in turn, foster lasting and meaningful relationships between our clients and members of the community.

The historic Rainier Club in downtown Seattle was the setting for this year’s annual Giving Through Song benefit dinner. On Saturday, October 11th friends and families gathered for a very special evening to celebrate Alpha’s 40th year of supporting people with developmental disabilities.

We are thrilled to implement our new position of Quality Assurance Manager. Jill Gruber has taken on this role and has jumped right in with both feet! Jill began working for Alpha in 2012, when she was hired as a Program Coordinator. Since that time, Jill has been promoted to Program Supervisor and now again to this position. Jill’s skills are an excellent match for her new role.
As the Quality Assurance Manager, Jill will visit all of our programs annually to inspect and ensure we are meeting our many requirements. She has already fine-tuned our systems and tools used to provide this oversight, visited East Branch programs and is now making her way through the West. Jill will oversee satisfaction surveys of staff, guardians and eventually clients. She’ll collect the data and help make plans to respond to areas that need additional attention and celebrate the areas where we are doing well.
Staff members play a significant role in the lives of the clients. They work hard and are committed, caring, Direct Support Professionals with extensive training and experience. Many Direct Support Professionals have worked with the same clients over many years. This consistency of care contributes to our clients’ overall quality of life, preservation of dignity, and achievement of life goals.
Every quarter, Alpha’s Supervisors choose one outstanding staff person in each of their programs as “Staff of the Quarter”.
